A Fresh Freshers

So, I turned up at Freedom Central today... ready to begin my nightly drudge of phoning around Wales... alas, I whispered a paean of loss as I picked up the handset, my hand shaking at its heavy signification of the path I was about to embark on. Woe, woe, I cried (in my head), as I was about to...

"Oh Ol, the Fresher's stuff has arrived!" says the Party Manager.

I think the sound that came out of my mouth was halfway between "SQUEE!" and "OOOH!", so perhaps more like "SQUOO!" or "OOOHEEE!". It doesn't really matter, to be honest.

Any lingering doubt I had that the Freshers packs were going to be as bad as last year's have been firmly torched to a grizzly and agonising death. As I rooted through the deep boxes at Freedom Central, gazing with awe upon the gleaming treasure chest of delights... I felt like I was looking deep into the beautiful hoard of a dragon... a liberal dragon... okay, maybe not, but I did feel that Liberal Youth had done us proud. All the gleamingly bright colours, the nifty slogans, the clever use of fun-sized tools...

...and BEER MATS!

In all seriousness, I am glad we are now dealing with a rejuvenated Liberal Youth. The materials are amazing, our activists are fired up. In Wales, we have our campaign going from strength to strength. All across the land, in university after university, we have liberal-minded students and youth ready to take the struggle to the barricades (a bit like the scene in Les Mis, but with less death).

I think all of us youngfolk and studentfolk (said in a Texan accent for full affect) are fed up of the same old things. Our way is not the destruction of community which occurred under the Tories. Nor is our way the destruction of liberty from Labour. Our way is a new way. And Freshers is the time we take our rejuvenated fight to the enemy.

Liberal Youth, things can only get better - and not in the New Labour sense of the word!
